26/02/2010 - Prima etappa del MOC – Nightsprint in Peschici
Olympic Games are not important this weekend in Gargano in southern Italy – all eyes are looking to the Mediterrenean Open Championships which have been opened with the night sprint in the historical center of Peschici.
Exactly at 18.30 the first starters took up their competition. With starting number 1 the 15 times Worldchampion Simone Niggli marked on the challenging course a time which nobody was able to beat – also the prelast starter and Sprint Worldchampion Helena Jansson lost nearly half a minute to Simone. Both liked the race in Peschici very much.
Another proof for the strongness of Swiss team was mens competition. The first starter and silver medalist of last years WOC Fabian Hertner marked a smashing time and he had a long lead.
But then Dani Hubmann – running in an one league – took the lead and kept it till to the end. Martin – the younger brother and last year winner of some medals at the JWOC completed the big success for the Hubmann family with the second place, Fabian Hertner finally landed on third place.
