Sardinia Five + Five 2013
3/10/2013 - Five + Five Sardinia 2013 - Stage 4 and 5 on 3rd October 2013

Overall victories to Anneke Hald Bjørgum (Norway) and Michael Sørensen (Denmark). Anneke Hald Bjørgum and Thierry Gueorgiou (France) won the final stage in Castelsardo. “Five + Five Days of Sardinia 2013” continued today with two stages. In the morning (stage number 4) there was a long distance race in the sea-pine forest of Marina di Sorso. In the afternoon (stage 5) the 5-days event ended with a typical Italian sprint race in the city of Castelsardo. The terrain at the 4th stage was very different from the three first stages, and the map was made by Markku Joensuu. Many runners used rather much time in the technically difficult forest and hot weather, but after the race it was possible to take a nice bath in the sea. In today's first race (stage 4), Thierry Gueorgiou again did a very good race, but not perfect in the men's senior class (M21). Yet, the French runner and “The King of Middle Distance” was more than five minutes faster than Michael Sørensen, Denmark, on the second place. Third place went to Ats Sõnajalg from Estonia. In the women’s class (W21), Ruth Holmes from Great Britain was sovereign and took the victory with more than five minutes ahead of Anneke Hald Bjørgum, Norway, who was the overall leader after three stages. Also Heidi Mårtensson, the 18 years old Norwegian, was sovereign in W20, winning with almost ten minutes ahead of Benedicte Hald Bjørgum, Norway. Men’s junior class was won by Yngvar Høimyr Solberg, almost two minutes ahead of the Swiss runner Lorenz Widmer. In the men's senior class, Michael Sørensen (Denmark) was in a clear lead overall before the 5th and final stage. Thierry Gueorgiou, who didn't start in stage 1 and 2, did a strong sprint race in Castelsardo, winning by almost two minutes ahead of the Estonian Ats Sõnajalg. The men's course was 2.7 km with 18 controls. Michael Sørensen was number three in the race and took a rather clear overall victory. The Estonian runner was number two overall, and Christian Holmboe from Norway was number three. In the women’s senior class, Anneke Hald Bjørgum was in a sovereign lead before the final stage in Castelsardo. The young Norwegian also won the final stage today. The winning time in the sprint race was 16.08 minutes. The women's course was 2.0 km with 14 controls. Ruth Holmes, Great Britain was number two, one minute and 38 seconds behind the winner. Third place went to Elisabeth Holmboe Eggen, Norway, who was number two in the overall after five stages. Rikke Kofoed, Denmark, was number three in the overall. The men’s junior class (M20) was in the overall won by the Norwegian runner Yngvar Høimyr Solberg.
