MOC Mediterranean Open Championship Orienteering 2014
11/01/2014 - Interview with sprint World Champion in 2012, Matthias Kyburz

PWT interviewed the sprint World Champions in 2012, Matthias Kyburz who will take part in MOC 2014 in Tuscany. PWT: We are really proud to have you at the 10th anniversary of MOC - Mediterranean Open Championship 2014. Several times you attended to MOC, which has been your motivation to insert MOC among your winter preparation? MK: MOC is always a great competition. There is mostly a strong starting filed and the competition terrains are technically demanding or otherwise just nice! This year with the World Champs in Italy, it was obvious for me to choose MOC as a preparation training camp for WOC! PWT: How much in your opinion is important to train specifically for the sprint distance? Do you reckon that Italian historical centres' characteristics are useful for this purpose? MK: The historical centres of the Italian cities are perfect for sprint training. In such terrains Sprint orienteering is demanding and makes fun. This year’s World Champs Sprint distances are also in historical centres and that`s the reason why it`s important to train specifically for it. PWT: Do you train specifically for the races in the historical centre respect to the races in the forest? And if yes, which are the significant differences of the technical preparation? MK: Of course you train differently. On the physical side the differences are nearly negligible but on the technical sides it`s like doing two different kind of sports. PWT: What do you like the most of Italy? MK: La dolce vita! PWT: Thank you for the interview and best of luck for the next WOC in Italy!
