16/11/2009 - Adriatic Meeting 2009 the top winners: Sarka Svobodna & Oystein Kval Osterbo


More than 200 athletes from 11 different countries joined last weekend the 3rd edition of the International Adriatic Meeting from 12th to 15th November 2009. The first stage took place in the historical centre of Verona on the special scenery of the Arena. The winner of the Women was the silver medallist of 2007 of the JWOC in Australia, Sarka Svobodna, from Czech Republic. Second place went to Ulrika Uotila from Finland and the 3rd place were for the 16 years old Julia Shutkovskaya. In men competition the first place was for the sprint specialist Oystein Kval Osterbo whereas the second position is for the Italian Misha Mamleev and the 3rd Jan Troeng from Sweden. The second day in Vicenza was Micha Mamleev the winner of the category Men Elite, with the second place for the Norwegian Osterbo and the third place for the Sweden Troeng. For the Women Elite the winner was Sarka Svobodna. The most performative were the numerous Czech with 14 victories of the 26 cathegories. Switzerland follows with 4 victories all feminine. In the morning were the turn of the more than 500 students to race thanks to the collaboration of the organizers Vicenza Orienteering Team and Pwt Italia. Special guests were in the morning five schools of Puglia including more than 100 students from Andria and from Monopoly because the orienteering is not just a sport but also a multidisciplinary activity that connect also geography, environmental education and history. The students enjoyed this experience and took the opportunity to visit the city of Palladio as well under the support and the partnership of the Sport Councillor both of Vicenza and of Puglia. In the evening the whole team was welcomed to visit the tipical winery of Vini Cris in Lonigo-Alonte: after the sport, a little time is to dedicate also to a refreshing wine tasting, where the offered red wines of Novello and Cabernet Riserva and the white Garganega were really appreciated. After this a home made Pasta party was waiting for the group with the live performance of Nick Manfredi to complete the experience in Italian taste and culture. Some anticipations: Next year the Adriatic Meeting 4th Edition will be from Thursday 11th to Sunday 14th November 2010.
