MOC Mediterranean Open Championship Orienteering 2017
24/03/2017 - The feeling of the 13th edition of MOC - Mediterranean Orienteering Championship is still in the air

Sincere thanks to the orienteers who attended the XIII edition of MOC Championship 2017, you made this event unique with your smiles and friendship… you were 609 participants in the last stage of Caserta representing 32 countries. The best result ever for MOC Championship! All together we lived the unique opportunity to run – under a beautiful sun - in the Archeological Park of Paestum and in Royal Residence Park of Reggia di Caserta, both UNESCO sites. Yet, the top runners enjoyed the high level MOC training camp/IOF test in Gargano The MOC tour was also unique with sites like Rome, Capri, Ischia, Sorrento, Amalfi, Pompeii, Vesuvio and the unforgettable Nick Manfredi Day where we celebrated the year of his 70th birthday. We honoured him with the first orienteering stage ever at his birth town Savelli, in Calabria, on Thursday 9th March. The MOC project, created in 2005, has developed in 3 areas: the Championship, the Camp and the Tour. MOC originated from the previous experience of the PWT World Series Olympic project. Indeed, back in 1996, PWT revolutionised foot orienteering, introducing the sprint formula. We received many handshakes and much gratitude after the event MOC 2017: from these meaningful acknowledgments we catch new motivations for our beloved sport of the forests and streets. A great team has always been by my side, and without this team the MOC 2017 project would not have been possible. I must mention Jörgen Mårtensson as he has trusted me right from the beginning, Jens Kopland of PWT Travel, Jaroslav Kacmarcik, Claes Nideborn, Cecilia Colonna and Giulia Zenere, Michele Barbone, Mauro Gazzerro, Janos Manarin, Janne Salmi, Emil Wingstedt, Aaron Gaio, Tommaso Scalet, Dusan Vystavel, Zoran Silja Milovanovic, Vency Venev, Ulu Aeschlimann, Samo Kofol, Bernt Bjørnsgaard, Jacopo Benini, Anne Edwards, Gabriele Tolisano, Davide Pecora (in the name of all locals orienteers) and our Sicilian friend Lorenzo Russo. Special thanks and greetings to the most far away athletes: Tim Robertson from New Zealand and Yiching Huang from Taiwan!
