Another decisive race weekend has just ended. The athletes who will wear the Italian t-shirt at the World Cup in Sweden from 18 to 22 June and at the World Championships in Finland from 7 to 12 July were selected in the woods of Loden (BZ). Seven PWT athletes competed to earn a place in the national team: Jessica Lucchetta, Guenda Zaffanella, Celeste Pretto, Sebastian Inderst, Marco Anselmo Di Stefano, Fabio Amadesi and Mattia Debertolis.

The results confirm the hard work the athletes have put in so far: Mattia Debertolis and Sebastian Inderst took first and second place respectively in Saturday’s long distance race, while Jessica Lucchetta secured third place in the women’s race.
On Sunday, Jessica again came third in the middle distance, just a few seconds behind her rivals Maddalena De Biasi and Anna Pradel. Sebastian came second again among the men, one minute behind Francesco Mariani, while Mattia’s poor map reading led him to sixth place. Also on Sunday, Celeste Pretto‘s performance in the elite category was noteworthy: the 2008-born athlete (still a junior) demonstrated her technical ability, achieving an impressive eighth place.

Team manager Gabriele Viale offered the following technical commentary: “It was a highly positive weekend for PWT, confirming the effectiveness of our continuous, well-designed work. Our riders won the long distance with a large gap, and Sebastian’s second place in the middle distance confirms their consistency. Jessica Lucchetta also performed excellently, confirming her consistency in both races. We are on the right track to achieving our goals.

The call-ups for the international events will be announced in a few days by the team’s overall coaches.

Meanwhile, in Norway…

Caterina Dallera, our sprint specialist (although she loves the woods), is currently studying in Trondheim, Norway, as part of the Erasmus programme. She doesn’t give up orienteering even from there: this weekend, she participated in a regional middle championship near her hometown, running for the Norwegian club NTNUI and securing a top 10 finish. This is a result we are very proud of, as Norway is one of the top countries in the world for orienteering results.
