In Vyšší Brod, Czech Republic, Sebastian Inderst took part in the third round of the season’s World Cup, held from 5 to 9 August. On the technical, submontane terrain of South Bohemia, Sebastian made it through the Middle distance qualification and secured a spot in the A-final — no small feat now that each nation can field up to 8 athletes.
There’s been work going on behind the scenes for a while: together with his coach Svetlana, and with the support of Park World Tour Italia, Sebastian has been reworking the way he approaches racing, and in Vyšší Brod the first concrete results showed on a terrain that was anything but simple.
We asked him for a few words on these days of racing:
“Overall I’d say I’m satisfied!! Thanks to the work I’m doing with Svetlana (thanks to PWT’s support) I’m restructuring the way I do orienteering, and it’ll take time to consolidate it. But it’s already starting to pay off, and I managed to put together some really stable races on very technical terrain! Qualifying for the A-finals is anything but a given now that every nation can bring up to 8 athletes, and in the finals I was still missing a bit of speed and refinement in the method I’m adapting… but it’s promising for the events ahead, especially the EOC at the end of September and next year’s WOC!”
