The first week of Five+Five Sardegna 2026 opened today with a full day of events as part of the Orienteering 4 Research project.
The scientific conference
The day began with the scientific conference, opened on behalf of Sardegna Ricerche by Dr. Giuseppe Serra. Also in attendance were the Mayor of Pula, Walter Cabasino, who is also President of the Gutturu Mannu Park, where Sardegna Ricerche is based, and Salvatore Ferraro, regional delegate of the Italian Orienteering Federation (FISO).
On the scientific side, contributions came from Marco Della Vedova (Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg), Filippo Tocco and Michele Ruggiu (University of Cagliari), Lucia Cugusi (University of Sassari), Dario Maximilian Spera and Vincenzo Piras (I.S.T.R.I.D.), and Federico Schena and Giorgio Storti (University of Verona). The sessions were moderated by Gabriele Viale, President of PWT Italia.
Team building and field activities
Alongside the conference, a team-building activity took place for the local institutions involved, Sardegna Ricerche, Forestas and the Gutturu Mannu Park, organized by PWT as part of the Orienteering 4 Research project.
The Azuni Institute of Pula also took part in the field experience, and thanks to the coordination of its principal, Jessica Cappai, hosted the activities superbly.
The field activities were led by a team of technicians from FISO Sardegna and PWT Italia: Giusto De Colle, Giacomo Chiesa, Mauro Gazzerro, Fabio Amadesi, Alessandro Bedin, Dario Giacon, Jessica Lucchetta, Annarita Scalzotto and Sofia Mascotto.
Code Hunter, a permanent installation of fixed orienteering control points, was inaugurated in the Gutturu Mannu Park. Code Hunter and orienteering exercises were also held for schools in Pula and for Sport Science university students from Cagliari and Sassari.
