On Tuesday, October 7th, 2025, at Maria Pia Beach, close to Alghero, we commemorated Mattia Debertolis, an athlete who lost his life during the World Games last August in China, remembering his passion, his dedication, and the courage with which he faced every challenge.
His family was also present at the ceremony, alongside the participants of the itinerant event “5+5 Days Orienteering Sardinia 2025”, who honored him with a symbolic orienteering course set in the pine forest where I had once mapped his final course.
Now, every trail, every contour, every tree still seems to carry traces of his presence.
It was there that his spirit kept running — free — through the silence of the woods and along the curves of the hills.
In his honor, we pledged to keep drawing new courses, to keep seeking the way forward, and to never stop moving on.
