Molveno, 6 June 2026 – The picturesque setting of Lake Molveno, on the Paganella plateau, hosted a new round of the Trentino Sprint Orienteering Cup, an event that also counts towards the CONI Trophy. The event attracted over 200 athletes representing 16 sports clubs, mainly from Trentino and Veneto.
The competition took place on the new course laid out in the areas adjacent to the lake, a brand-new route that put the participants’ technical and athletic skills to the test. The event, sponsored by the Municipality of Molveno and APT Visit Paganella, was organised by Park World Tour Italia SSD in collaboration with the 5 Days organising committee.
The Trentino Cup forms part of the FISO regional circuit, comprising 11 stages, and is one of the key events for the sport in north-eastern Italy.
The awards ceremony was attended by a number of dignitaries, including Michele Viola, President of APT Azienda per il Turismo Dolomiti Paganella; the Mayor of Molveno, Lorenzo Donini, accompanied by the Councillor for Sport, Ivano Donini; Mariavittoria Mottes, Mayor of the Municipality of Fai della Paganella; Ezio Donini, President of SITM (Società Incremento Turistico Molveno), and Giuseppe Simoni of CONI Trentino.
The top three finishers in the elite women’s and men’s categories were, for the women’s category, Martina Palumbo, Debora Dalfollo and Alice Ventura, and for the men’s category, Samuele Tait, Gabriele Borinato and Luca Libardoni.
Molveno 2027: a major international event on the horizon
The new course is not destined to remain a one-off venue: in 2027, it will host the opening stage of the 5 Days of Orienteering, scheduled from 28 June to 4 July. The event, one of the most eagerly awaited on the European calendar, attracts around 2,000 participants from central and northern Europe every year.
“The Molveno event is part of a wider project to develop orienteering in the Paganella area,” said Gabriele Viale, team manager and sporting director of PWT Italia. “In addition to the major international events already scheduled, we want to establish and promote the sport in the region, involving young people and local enthusiasts. The project also includes the creation of an Academy specialising in high-level training, based at the Town Hall of Fai della Paganella.»
