On Saturday, August 8, 2026, near Tonadico, in Primiero, the orienteering event “Under Our Star” was held — a moment to come together and remember Mattia Debertolis one year after his passing.

The event was organized at the wish of the Debertolis family, with technical organization by PWT Italia, under the patronage of FISO (the Italian Orienteering Sports Federation) and the Municipality of Primiero San Martino di Castrozza.

The day began with a moment of reflection at the Tonadico cemetery, followed by a gathering at Chalet Piereni, run by Mattia’s mother Erica, before moving on to a short orienteering course open to everyone, designed to share the spirit of joy and passion that Mattia always brought to those around him.

The competition courses were designed by Martina Palumbo and Samuele Tait, longtime friends of Mattia and his teammates on the national team, who chose to lay out the courses right in the woods of Primiero: the very woods where Mattia was born and where, in orienteering terms, he had taken his first “steps” with map and compass, under the guidance of coach Renzo De Paoli.

The event was also attended by FISO President Aldo Giomi, along with numerous athletes, coaches, and friends who over the years had shared races, training sessions, and achievements with Mattia, as well as the Primiero community, which has always stood close to the Debertolis family.

A day of sport and community, in which the memory of Mattia stayed alive among the woods that saw him grow up. In her brief remarks, his mother Erica shared a thought with those present: her wish to see the federation united, overcoming the frictions between its various parts, so that Mattia’s passing might become an opportunity for coming together and reconciliation. An invitation to experience sport the way he would have lived it: with a joyful spirit, with a pure love for orienteering and for hard work, together with one’s teammates.
